How To Repair A Tile Roof In Sacramento
Each type of roof has unique repair and maintenance issues as well as a unique life span in comparison to other roofing materials. With a tile roof, the expectation is that the roof will last for decades, and this is generally the case. However, this does not mean that the roof is free of repair and maintenance issues that will require our attention. If you have noticed signs of damage to your roof, Sacramento Handyman can provide you with excellent tile roof repair services.
Signs Your Roof Needs Repair
Tile roof damage can manifest in various ways, and it’s crucial to address these issues promptly to prevent further damage. Here are the most common signs your tile roof needs repair:
- Cracked or Missing Tiles: The tiles, often made of clay or concrete, can crack under weight or when objects fall onto the roof. Missing tiles are also a clear indicator of damage.
- Leaks: Leaks typically occur when the felt material installed underneath the tiles begins to deteriorate with age. This can lead to water seeping into the underlying structure, causing significant damage.
How to Repair a Tile Roof
When you notice signs of damage to your tile roof, you may wonder about the steps needed to repair it. Repairing a tile roof requires careful handling to avoid causing additional damage. Here’s a concise guide:
- Inspection: Start by inspecting the roof to identify all areas of damage. This includes checking for cracked or missing tiles and examining the underlayment for signs of wear and tear.
- Safety Precautions: Ensure you have the right safety gear. Since walking on tile roofs can cause further damage, use ladders or scaffolding whenever possible to minimize direct contact with the tiles.
- Remove Damaged Tiles: Carefully remove the damaged tiles. Use a pry bar to lift the tiles gently, avoiding further cracks.
- Replace Underlayment: If the underlayment is damaged, replace it with new felt material. This is crucial for preventing future leaks.
- Install New Tiles: Place new tiles where the damaged ones were removed. Ensure they match the existing tiles for a seamless look. Secure the tiles properly to prevent them from moving.
Selecting Your Contractor
For even a small tile roof repair project, you want to work with a skilled and experienced contractor. Here’s how to choose the right professional:
- Experience and Skills: Ensure the contractor has extensive experience with tile roof repairs. Tile roofing requires specific skills and knowledge to avoid causing additional damage. Understanding Basic Roof Repairs Per Roof Type can also help in assessing the contractor’s expertise.
- Response Time: Choose a contractor who provides a fast response. Even minor issues can lead to leaks, causing further damage to your home. A quick response can prevent such complications.
- Professional Inspection: The contractor should offer a thorough inspection of the roof and provide an estimate for the necessary repairs. They should also be able to patch the roof temporarily to prevent leaks until the repairs are completed.
- Quality Materials: The contractor should use materials that match your existing roof to ensure a flawless and seamless repair. This maintains the aesthetic and functional integrity of your roof.
Benefits of Professional Tile Roof Repair

I just have a small tile roof repair job I need fixed. I had a tile from the top of the house fall on the second part of the roof and crack the tile. I would need the original tile and broken tile replaced. I also wouldn’t mind a paying a little more for a roof inspection. I live in Natomas and the roof was put on when the house was built in 2006. Please let me know if you could come out and check as I have written a bunch of these to companies and no one responds.
Thank you
